Autumn holidays in numbers

The autumn half-term has begun in the south of the country, and it’s shaping up to be another busy period. The first signs are showing some interesting developments: booking patterns are shifting even more towards last-minute reservations, the German market continues to grow, and guests are expecting increasing levels of flexibility and comfort. We’ve summarised the key trends and figures for you, so you can be well prepared.

Last-minute bookings remain popular

Just like in previous years, the number of last-minute bookings is on the rise. In 2025, 42% of bookings were made within 14 days of arrival, up from 38% in 2024. This trend highlights the importance of visibility and flexibility in the final weeks before arrival.

💡 Tip: Make sure your marketing campaigns and availability are optimised in the last weeks to cater to this group of spontaneous bookers.

Short stays dominate

The biggest growth is once again seen in short stays (1–3 nights). Nearly half of all bookings are made up of these brief trips. Although this affects the average order value, data shows that guests on shorter stays tend to spend more per day.

💡 Tip:  Respond to this trend with dynamic pricing strategies and offer flexible arrival and departure days to fill gaps in your schedule.

Pets becoming increasingly important

This year, bookings including pets continue to rise, showing a 29% increase compared to last year. More than one in four families now travel with a dog or other pet.

💡 Tip: Do you have enough pet-friendly accommodation? Review your offerings carefully and make sure pet-friendly options are clearly highlighted on your website.

Growth from Germany is increasing

German holidaymakers are more important than ever in 2025. Bookings from Germany have risen by 61% compared to 2024. German guests are particularly well represented at campsites, now accounting for 24% of all bookings (up from 22% last year).

💡 Tip: Consider adding German-language content to your website and tailor your communications to this audience.

Key insights at a glance:

  • 42% last-minute bookings: optimise your visibility right up to the last moment;
  • Strong growth in short stays: be flexible with arrival and departure days;
  • Bookings including pets up 29%: cater to animal comfort;
  • German market growing rapidly: invest in targeted marketing and guest experience.
