At Booking Experts, we think learning and development are very important. This is reflected in the personal and professional growth of our employees, the BEX Academy for students, and our interns in the workplace. One of them is Vera. She is 21 years old and a third-year Creative Business student. She is interning in our marketing department as a Social Media & Content Marketer. Do you want to know what an internship at Booking Experts looks like? Vera tells you about her experiences as an intern at Booking Experts.
How did you end up at Booking Experts?
'I saw the internship vacancy and was immediately enthusiastic! Besides my studies, I work as a receptionist at holiday park Marveld Recreatie in Groenlo. Booking Experts fitted in well with this, so my choice was easily made. After my first job interview, I was able to start quickly.'
What struck you first about our company?
'There is a pleasant and informal atmosphere in the office. In addition, the building is modern, and you can find everything you need. What I personally like very much is that many colleagues have completed the same course of study. As a result, they understand exactly what the school expects of you as an intern and what challenges you may encounter. Right from the first day, I felt at home. It's a place where everyone wants to help you and where you are taken seriously as an intern.'
What are your duties during your internship?
'The work is very varied, which is what makes it so much fun. For example, I mainly focus on content creation and copywriting for different clients. I also work on internal and external link building, check websites, and follow training courses focused on SEO and link building. In addition, I get involved in the social media process for our clients, observing, thinking, and learning all the steps of social media advertising.'
'Every week, I meet with my buddy Mark, who is also my internship supervisor. We discuss what my week will look like, what I might need help with, and how my internship assignment is progressing for school. It is nice that there is so much support, allowing me to work in a well-structured way and achieve my personal learning goals during the internship.'
What in particular do you learn here that you don't learn at school?
'During the internship, of course, you learn the most by just doing it. First, I took training courses through our own learning platform, StudyTube. Then I started working on my own. Within a short time, I learned so much, not only in terms of work content but also about practical matters. After all, you learn how the business world works. At school, I often stick to the theory; here, I go deeper.'
How would you describe the corporate culture?
'I would say it's a friendly, informal atmosphere, but also very professional. Communication is clear, so you always know where you stand. You are listened to carefully and can always ask questions, with colleagues ready to help. As an intern you are really part of the team. You don’t get typical intern tasks; instead, you are included in the whole process. I take part in weekly meetings and discussions about new clients, and I am also entrusted with tasks by other colleagues. This really makes me feel appreciated and shows that my work matters.'
'Right from day one, I felt at home. It's a place where everyone wants to help you and where you are taken seriously as an intern.'
Why would you recommend other students to choose this internship?
'If you are looking for an internship with structure, guidance, and variety, then this is the ideal place. You can learn a lot here through internal training and the fact that you are immediately involved in the work field. In addition, you work in a pleasant atmosphere with good working conditions and professional guidance.'
Tips for other students looking for an internship?
'My tip is to bring something to your job interview, such as a portfolio or something you are proud of. For example, during my interview, I brought an animation booklet that I had designed. It shows what you can already do and where your passion lies, giving a good first impression.'
"Another tip is to think carefully in advance about what you want to learn. Make it known, because this way you can gain a lot, and they are really willing to help you here.'
